Missions

New River Baptist Church has a heart for missions.  We see missions as anywhere we can show Jesus Christ's love to others.

Our contributions to mission causes has included designating 8% of our receipts to International Missions, North American Missions and State Missions.  In addition, many members give sacrificially to each of these special offerings.

Members are found to be involved in many community ministries such as the Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels,Pregnancy Care Center, Baptist Collegiate Ministries at ABAC, and the Food Pantry at the Mell Baptist Center.

Mission Trips have been made to various locations in Kentucky, South Carolina, Alaska, Tennessee, and Mississippi.  Several members have been on mission trips in countries such as China, Russia, France, and Panama.  And this year we took our first ever New River sponsored International Mission Trip to Peru.  And for the next four years we will be going back to Peru to work at the New Life Children's Home and help plant churches in the Yacus and Yanamarca Valleys.  Check out the video from our second trip here .  And the video from our third trip here

Mission Organizations in the Men's, Women's and Children's Ministries keep the church updated and informed about missions all around the world.  These organizations lead out in guiding prayer for missionaries as they carry the Gospel to others.

2010 International Work

Just wanted to keep you up to date on New River’s Ministry to Peru for 2010 so that you can plan to go with us.

1.  We are still on track to go Nov 14-20 of 2009 to work with Miguel and Sergio, our disciplers.  We will also be working on firming up plans for future ministry there, checking on our prospects, and training other ministry leaders so they can lead trips there.  Craig Nalls, our Associational Missionary, is going with me this trip.  It will be a good trip, be in prayer for us.  And by the way, if you know of others who are interested in going to Peru with us, just have them contact me, especially pastors, who can take others back to Peru, to help us plant churches.  There are countless villages there with no gospel witness.

2.  Our next trip will be March 13-21, 2010, which is Spring Break for our local college.  My plan right now is to do a baseball camp there.  We will be taking as many college students as we can, and doing an evangelistic camp in Julcan and Molinos.  But the trip is open to everyone who wants to go with us.  The cost will be about $1500, depending on ticket prices.  We are in need of people with a baseball background and people who can speak Spanish.

3.  Our next trip will be July 16-25, 2010, or so.  This team will do many things.  But one of the main things that the administrator in Julcan said would be helpful is a medical team.  Do don’t feel like you can’t go if you aren’t medical personnel, but if you are medically trained, we would love to have you on this trip.  There is plenty of work to be done, and whoever will go with us, we will put to work.  The cost will probably be about the same, again, depending on plane tickets.

4.  Our next trip will probably be mid-Nov 2010 to do similar ministry to what I am doing this Nov.  Checking on people, showing pastors around, and planning for future trips.  Our partnership with Peru extends to 2012, and by then we hope to have churches planted and flourishing in this place.

So start penciling in dates, saving money, and seeking the will of the Lord for your life on this matter.  Many of these dates are somewhat flexible, and so feel free to inquire.  We just have to start somewhere.  But the further out they are, the more flexibility is there.  Also the ministry plans are flexible to.  On mission trips, EVERYTHING is flexible, fluid, and subject to change.  Deadlines, however for plane ticket ordering purposes will be about three months out, so we can ensure a good price.  We are flexible with the airline and airports that we fly out of, depending on the price.  (however, there are certain airlines that we don’t know, that we will not fly).  Everyone is welcome to come. If you have blood pressure problems or asthma, you must be OKed by a Dr to go, but the trip is not rugged, per se.  But as soon as you are really thinking that you might go, please let me know which trip, so we can begin preparing.

In case you never saw the blog posts and videos that I did on our Aug 09 trip, here is the link: http://readytospendandbespent.blogspot.com/2009/08/peru-trip-aug-2009-i.html and there are five other posts that detail the rest of our trip and the video.

"You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slaughtered. With your blood you purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation…” Rev 5:9

May we fill up what is lacking in His sufferings with a bodily presentation of the gospel (Col 1:24), so that the Lamb may receive the reward of His suffering,

Verse of The Day

“Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” (John 14:23)  listen to chapter  (Read by Max McLean. Provided by The Listener's Audio Bible.)
